AVATAR FOR A FUNERAL
(2007)
At that time the focus of this project was on the body and its appearance in virtual space - the aesthetic blur between virtual machine created reality and our surrounding reality , where garments can be touched , smelled and their texture felt on the skin. Carefully tailored and crafted pieces in silk , wool suiting , fine cotton mesh are photographed , cut and pasted. The computer collages simulate fictional models constructed of photographic fragments wearing photos of the 3 dimensional clothes in virtual space.Fashion Design is seen as a reflection of Zeitgeist , where technology is increasingly interwoven with everyday life. These virtual space avatars are dressed in hand-& machine-crafted designs for their own funeral of their once mortal bodies.
